
Our Mission
The Mission of the MSO is to provide an opportunity of the highest quality for non-public schooled musicians to experience the joy of performing with other student musicians, and to develop an appreciation for excellent music through performances of music of the “masters”.
Season Details
The MSO rehearses at Oakwood Presbyterian Church
1865 Waddle Rd., State College, PA 16803
Instruments needed: violin, viola, cello, bass,
all woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Piano positions are currently filled.
Repertoire: Generally consists of Classical arrangements, holiday music, hymns, movie themes, marches, etc. We will begin each session with scales and warm-up exercises.
Rehearsals: Each student will need to bring their instrument(s) and a folding music stand.
Time Commitment: There will be four 7-week sessions beginning in September and ending in late April. All students must commit to either the first 2 sessions, the last 2 sessions, or all 4 sessions as we will be preparing for 2 concerts (one in December and one in April) and we will need to have consistent personnel in order to prepare. We will meet on Mondays from 3:30-5 pm for rehearsals. There may be occasional additional commitments. The orchestra has performed at local nursing homes, and performed a joint concert with the Carlisle-based Central PA Homeschool Orchestra in 2018.

Session 1: Sept. 8,15,22,29, Oct. 6,13, 20 (2025)
Session 2: Oct. 27,Nov. 3,10,17,24 Dec. 1,8 (extra session for possible concert at retirement home) with public concert at 7 pm Dec. 8 , 2025 (To be confirmed)
Session 3: Jan. 6,13,20,27, Feb. 3,10,17 (2026)
Session 4: Feb. 24, March 3,17,24,31 (possibly use March 10 as snow make-up day), April 7,14
with concert at 7 pm, April 14 ,2026 (To be confirmed)
We are currently recruiting for the 2025-2026 season.
Tuition Fee: $65 per 7-week session , $35 per session for the second child from the same family, and free for each additional sibling.
